Menu-ness

This is a mock-up of a menu I am creating for the lounge at my work. So far, I LIKE!

Creative blockage

So, for psych we're supposed to do this Creative Project in which we are to depict 3 emotions. We can do a picture or painting of some sort or a video or "other visual medium". I have no idea what to do. I wanted to do some sort of video, but make it really artsy and non-narrative so that it gives the IMPRESSION of the emotion. It doesn't show it. But I was like, "how do I do that?"

So then I thought to do Stop-Motion Animation, which is normally incredibly fun to do. But my camera is a pain the arse because it runs out of battery REALLY fast. And I still don't know what to do even for that. I guess I'll have to do a painting?

*Sigh* ..... I don't want to do a painting. Or a picture. I want it to MOVE. Film is what I DO and it is also what I LOVE.

Stupid creative blockage. To tell the truth, the creative well has been running dry for a while. Especially when it comes to writing. I've been writing the same script for the past 2 years. Not fun.

Anyway ...

I Wanna Be a Pop Star!

A bit of pop culture ranting here. I don't need to say anything: this video says it ALL.

Oh, that's nice.

A sticker I found on the Go Train shelter door at the York University Go Train stop. It's nice. I'm certain that this is a joke, but I would LOVE for it to be a real typo. But what I DO like about this sticker is that it's a play on words and makes you look twice at it, just to make sure that you read the correct thing. Brilliant idea.

Trapezoid-Head Cat

So, I'm sitting here, trying to think up ideas for this toy design project I have to do for DMA 179 and my mind is totally blank. Which is weird because it's night and that's usually when I do some of my better work. I flip through some of my older sketchbooks and I come across this picture I drew for this little painting of a cat with a trapezoid head I did for my uncle when - KABLAM! - I get a really cool idea for a kid's toy. But the way the trapezoid head cat came around is actually really funny.

My uncle was having a dream with this black cat with a trapezoid head following him around. Suddenly, it jumps on his shoulder! He tries to shake it off by throwing his body around. Instead, he manages to throw himself out of bed and across the room to the wall with the window. Of course, this woke him up and he had to tell everyone this story the next time we saw him, so for Christmas I painted him a picture of a cat with a trapezoid head.

So that design inspired me to make a line of Geo-Animals, including the cat with the trapezoid head - that you can interchange between the different animals to create your very own Freak Animal Farm.

When I'm closer to my scanner I'll scan in the picture of the trapezoid cat.

But for now, need to go work on a script. So if you'll excuse me, I must be off.

Character Trace

So, for Joe's class(es) we are required to do an Illustrator trace of a sketch that we have done and this is the one that I have decided to do:
I drew it at one in the morning. I find that I do some pretty good work late at night. I think its because the house is silent, my family is asleep and not bothering me every two seconds and I am just free to think and draw...

Anyway, I still can't draw faces. Even cartoon ones. But I'm starting to understand the importance of posing and proportioning! No more sausage legs for me!

Oo-er! New background

I need to learn CSS very VERY badly. It took me twenty minutes to figure out how to change the background to an image. Now I need to figure out how to change ... everything else.

But I really like this image (it's from tonicliving.com) because it's really retro and reminds me of the title sequence of the Disney cartoon version of "101 Dalmations" where the spots are dancing around with the lines of the music bar...I tried finding it on YouTube but to no avail. The title sequence for the SECOND one is there, but really, who even WATCHED the second one?

It also really reminds me of the "Jetsons". Gosh I miss that show:

They should put that show back on the air. For me, watching that NOW, not only do I understand the jokes finally, but it's really a big source of inspiration since retro is a huge trend and here's a nice example of retro-ness staring me in the face. Sweet. Going to go find the "Eep Opp, Ork, Ah Ah" episode now. Cartoon-ies and animation-lovers like myself will know what I'm talking about.

Character Tracing

Here's a Illustrator-ized version of a character I drew in a sketch book a little while back (2 weeks) when I was learning character development. I still AM learning character development, but this was at the beginning of my tutelage.

OK - the original colors are NOT blue, purple and white but the JPEG rendering on Illustrator is being tres annoying at the moment so I'll fix it when I get home. H'enjoy.

Bored...

I don't actually remember WHY I made this ...

But the Marines is what Red Shoes calls the DMA students.

And the ninjas...well, everything in DMA is ninja, isn't it?

Please note the crappiness of my lines in North and South America. This was before I decided to buy a mouse and did most of this with the touch pad on my MacBook. Go me! But, you know, for a touch pad, it's not TOO shabby, right?

Day at the Studios

<< At Organic in the lunch room.

On Friday, I went downtown to the FITC to do a tour thing of a bunch of the big design/interactive studios. It was pretty much the coolest thing ever.

Yeah. That's the only way to describe it.

And very enlightening because now I actually have some idea of what I can be doing once I'm done DMA as well as a better answer to my family's constant question (other than, "What is it you're taking, again?) of, "So what are you going to do when you're done?"

I'm really interested in the video stuff like they showed us at Teehan+Lax. It was some internet video thing that was really cool.

OK. Well, I'm really tired and not feeling well right now (I have a cold! Huzzah!) so I'm just going to post a few pictures then add to this later.
